Flax (linum usitatissimum) plants originated near the Mediterranean over 10,000 years ago to supply both food and fiber. Its resistance to rot is legendary. FlaxTech LLC was formed as a result of discoveries from fiber research that began in 1997 and has facilities at Rock Lake and Sarles, North Dakota. This location is in the midst of a strong flax production area in North Dakota. North Dakota grows 85 to over 90% of the total US production, with over a half million acres in 2001. FlaxTech uses unique processing methods to bring the exceptional strength, durability and water holding capacity of flax fiber to homeowners and gardeners. The flax fiber mats, basket liners and skirts are oven sterilized to further assure the finest product available for horticultural uses.
